Practices are now being held outside at the clubhouse from 5pm-6pm every Tuesday, so come out and get ready for the new season.

The Rockers are proud to provide mini rugby to all children from ages 6-18years of age. We will host U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18 teams based on numbers. Children between ages six and 10 play in the non-contact (flag rugby) Alberta Junior Rugby league where mixed-gender teams team up and play together. Mixed genders aged 11 to 12 play contact where tackling skills are introduced and youth 13 to 16 years of age play on either an all-male or all-female teams in the Alberta Junior Rugby leagues. Both leagues play every Saturday morning 9am-12pm, May to July at the Ellerslie Rugby Park – car pooling is encouraged from the clubhouse.

Basics on Rugby

The sport is played on a ‘pitch’, similar to a soccer field. A rugby ball is a putting a soccer ball and football together. There are two ends, like a football end zones the difference is that a player has to touch the ball to the ground in the end zone to score a ‘try’.

The team moves down the field by either passing backwards and strategically running forward, kicking the ball down the filed to gain yards, or by carrying the ball with a ‘pack’ to gain yards. A team can also kick through the uprights any time during the game and after a try is scored (3 and 2 points respectively).
